What’s New

Rosie and Cory earn passes for Master Hunter

Fall was a busy season for field trials as well as hunting. Rosie and Cory both earned additional passes toward their Master Hunter titles. Rosie needs only one more and Cory just two.

Ellie in training

Ellie had her first birthday last week and continues to amaze us with her boldness in the field. Her instincts are sharp and she’s as quick as a second. She slams points so fast sometimes, she nearly tumbles. We’re thrilled with her progress and look forward to testing her in field trials.

Preliminary hip check

Ellie recently had x-rays to check for hip dysplasia. We’re pleased to report that her hips look “good” at this point. She will have a final check for OFA certification at age two. We hope to add Ellie as a breeding female in 2011 to continue the excellent lines of her parents, Rosie and Titus.

Vetessa De La Savane Rouge Ondulante excelled in her final run for the AKC Master Hunter title, receiving ten top scores of “10” and two scores of “9” from two judges in the six required categories.

Tess Earns AKC Master Hunter Title

Tess, Rosie, Cory Attend Training Camp

Don and three of our dogs escaped from the desert heat in early August to train for a few days at Bill Gibbons’ camp in the beautiful high country of the Arizona White Mountains.

Ellie Practices Water Retrieves

Four-month-old Ellie has been enjoying frequent trips to the Verde River to practice retrieving from the water. One morning, she also had the opportunity to meet some wild horses roaming near the shore.

Rosie’s first puppy arrived on April 23, 2010 at 5:00 a.m and Number 8 finally made his appearance at 8:10 p.m.  What a long day for all of us! The new family includes four girls and four boys. Three are orange and white (1 male, 2 females), four are black and white (2 males, 2 females) and one little boy is tricolor.

New Arrivals!

The puppies now weigh between three and four pounds and their teeth are coming in.  We are supplementing Mom’s milk with goat’s milk formula to help satisfy their appetites.

Rosie’s puppies are three weeks old

We said farewell to Sandi on May 3rd. She was a devoted best friend and hunting partner for 15 years. We treasure the memories of her playful antics, her gentle nature and countless successful days in the field.

Rosie’s puppies turned two weeks old May 7th and they are growing fast, gaining about two to three ounces each day. They are now walking (wobbling) on all fours and have their eyes open.

Weaning puppies

At four weeks old, Rosie’s puppies have sharp little teeth and are now enjoying “real” food. Rosie spends less time feeding them, but still helps with clean-up duties, which we appreciate. The puppies are beginning to establish a pack order and to develop individual personalities. The fun stage is just beginning! Click here for more photos.

Cory scores a pass toward AKC Master Hunter title

Don and Cory participated in an AKC hunt test event May 22- 23 in the mountains west of Flagstaff, Arizona. Saturday morning was cold and very windy, but Cory was in fine form and passed his first run with high scores - the only dog to pass that day. Weather conditions were worse on Sunday with 50 mph winds. No dogs scored a pass. Better luck next time!
